Janice Turner
Vice Chair
Janice Turner is a longstanding campaigner for race equality within the party and in the media and entertainment industries, having written race action plans for the theatre and commercials industries, endorsed by more than 250 companies.
The party published the Alderdice Review in 2018 on the need to address minority underrepresentation, and Janice worked hard with the LDCRE to press for the review’s implementation, but when it had not been implemented by 2024, Janice wrote the Alderdice Six Years On report, published by the LDCRE last year, with very specific recommendations. In the absence of much action at the federal level, LDCRE have been implementing it themselves. She also played a major role in producing the Lib Dem report on race equality in education and employment, endorsed by the party leader in 2012.
Janice is a lifelong party member and has been chair of the Young Liberals and ALDTU. She is a trade union official – editor of the union’s journal and diversity officer – and, as a longstanding pension scheme trustee, co-founded the Association of Member Nominated Trustees, of which she is now an honorary President. Janice has influenced government policy on pensions and given evidence in person to the Work and Pensions Select Committee. She has also written Liberal Democrat policy on a range of issues, including race equality and pensions, at the federal and regional levels.
