Cllr Nancy Jiria

Nancy Jiria joined the Liberal Democrats in 2006 and was first elected as a councillor in Camden in 2008. Apart from a break between 2014 and 2021, she has served the community for many years.

Passionate about tackling inequality, unfairness and injustice, Nancy became increasingly concerned during the Covid-19 pandemic about the disproportionate impact on Black communities, particularly among frontline NHS workers. The unexplained number of Black nurses and doctors who died prompted her and others to call for the Liberal Democrats to examine wider disparities.

This work contributed to the development of the BLAC Lives Action Group, which explored issues affecting African and Caribbean communities and helped shape the BLAC Policy document.

BLAC provides a safe space within the Liberal Democrats to discuss inequalities affecting people of African and Caribbean heritage, while supporting wider work on these issues.

Nancy brings her experience, knowledge and perspective to the LDCRE, helping ensure that inequalities affecting African and Caribbean communities are recognised and addressed within the Party.
